ALL THINGS MADE NEW, CYCLE B

A new creation, a new heavens, a new earth, a new appreciation of life, a new outlook on death – new persons, new values, a new understanding of law and our responsibilities under it, new symbols, new organizations, new hope: all these were inaugurated with the coming of Jesus. The “good news” which the Gospels proclaim always brings with it something “new”. A new day dawned for the human race with the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It takes awhile to incorporate all the ramifications of that fact into our daily lives. It takes a lot of study, reflection, living, and most of all prayer. The thoughts presented in these pages are the fruit of a careful pondering of the liturgical readings for the Sundays and Holy Days of Cycle B in the light of the lived experience of the men and women of today as they approach the beginning of a new millennium. Buetow, PhD, JD is a priest from the Diocese of Brooklyn who spent thirty years at Catholic University where he taught and was Senior Staff Editor on The New Catholic Encyclopedia. This present title is the second of a trilogy of reflections on the Readings of the Liturgical Year. The other volumes are: God Still Speaks: Listen! (Cycle A) and Ode to Joy (Cycle C). Fr.
