Fr. Farrell brings a lifetime of pastoral and personal experiences to this moving presentation. The listener’s awareness of the awesome and wonderful presence of Christ grows throughout the talk and unhealthy fear, loneliness, guilt, anxiety, and bitterness are replaced by a sense of peace and real faith.
Though spirituality is a term that is a mile wide today, usually it is only an inch deep. In hearing Fr. Farrell the listener becomes aware of his or her own depths and true identity as a member of the living body of Christ. His probing questions and his images of the first disciples are thought provoking and soul stirring. The role of Mary and the Apostles who were the first to experience Christ in the flesh and then in his Eucharistic presence provide the listener with a substantial amount of meaty material that takes time to truly digest. Fr. Farrell urges the listener to keep holy the Sabbath and to take the time that is necessary to allow the awareness of Christ’s presence to grow in our life. The 52 Sundays a year, if truly days of resting in the Lord are equivalent to seven and a half weeks of vacation. This vacation is mandated by God in the scriptures and is perhaps the single most powerful thing the listener can do to truly become united with God in this life. The resting in the Lord makes labor in the vineyard truly fruitful and as the listener’s closeness and intimacy with Christ grows, the creative power of the Father and grace of the Spirit transforms us into servants of the kingdom and makes us worthy disciples of Christ. This tape provides the listener with hope that rests on divine love rather then human power.
