These presentations approach the text of the Book of Teresa’s Life like that of a spiritual director asking Teresa about her life of prayer and her heart’s deepest desires. We also ask Teresa about the resistances which for years kept her heart unresponsive to offers divine friendship. Her gift for making friends and her enjoyment of good conversation are natural gifts, which through her inordinate attachment to them drain energy for God. Only after much struggle does Teresa come to recognize Jesus as her most faithful and 'most feared friend'. As we meet the many confessors who become her advisers, we gain insight into inept guidance, which leads to discouragement, and to good spiritual guidance, which opens Teresa to her most profound conversion experience. Teresa’s journey offers insight for our lives today, especially for persons who offers or who seek spiritual guidance.
