PARENTING WITH POWER

We need parents who can truly guide their children to become mature self-reliant adults. How? The family is in trouble! 50% of marriages end in divorce. Teenagers are having babies. Many times the major influence on children is from outside the home—rap music—friends, etc.
Fr. Martin thoroughly explains five major areas for parenting.
#1 Parents must know how to communicate among themselves first, then their children—person to person-direct-clear-open-honest-heart to heart and must know how to listen.
#2 Parents must be self confident in their power to be and to teach: if they are not, children will lack discipline, have fears, anxiety.
#3 Parents must know to be firm. Children are great little psychologists. Parents must create boundaries and enforce them; lack of enforcement is seen as a lack of love. Hard to believe but children have greater respect/love for such parents.
#4 Parent must be consistent in the life and teaching. They must live and guide in morality and just rules. How? Repeat — Repeat - Repeat.
#5 Parents must be consistent. This gives the children a secure feeling. A child will consciously and unconsciously learn this from the parent. Commitment to oneself before God - between mother and father - to children, they must feel/experience this None of this is automatic it must be worked at.
This program will make each parent a better person and he/she can be a powerful influence in raising good mature children.
