Rejection: what human being hasn’t had that experience? When we encounter it in our lives, where does it take us? What residue has it left in our psyche? Having been rejected, we feel diminished. Self-esteem crumbles. The memory hangs on like a wound that won’t heal and may continue to spew out negative self-talk.
Sr. Carole shows us how to deal with the need for approval, where we go with our sense of abandonment, what an effort to forgive achieves for us and for others. We are given the titles of books and specific chapters in them that can help us.
We ponder special kinds of rejection: those involving close family and friendship relationships, being fired from a job, not making the grade as we pursue a goal. “All our losses are unique, so our ways of coping are unique.” Best of all, we are offered what can become the groundwork for new hope. Our losses then move us on to a fresh understanding of past events and a richer sense of our possibilities. These tapes will help listeners explore their own bleak struggles with rejection and will suggest strategies for assisting others who may ask for support.
