BASIC CATHOLIC BELIEFS FOR TODAY
The Creed Explained

In this work, Rev. Leonard F. Badia, Ph.D., the co-author of Morality: How To Live It Today examines the dogmas of the Church. Each of the basic beliefs expressed in the Creed is traced from its roots in Scripture and its treatment by the Church Fathers to the dogmatic statements of the General Councils. Once the dogma has been put in its historical context, it is then related to the concerns of today’s believers.

Among the questions discussed: Why is there evil in the world? What do Moslems believe about Jesus? How are non-Christians saved? What about private revelations? What will eternal life be like? The work succinctly presents the core truths of our faith as captured in the Nicene Creed and notes the chief heresies or partial truths that have confused or bewildered Christians throughout the centuries. Such contemporary issues as the preoccupation with the possible end of the world, the modern understanding of original sin, and the nature and importance of revelation are also dealt with in an intelligent and convincing manner.

About the Author: Father Leonard Badia is a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. He is presently a Professor of Theology at St. John’s University. He holds several degrees including a Ph.D. in religious education from New York University. He was the organizer and director for five years of the John XXIII School of Adult Education for the Diocese of Brooklyn.
