TOMORROW WILL BE TOO LATE
A Life of Saint Peter Julian Eymard (1811-1868)

At the end of the first session of the Second Vatican Council, Pope John XXIII canonized Saint Peter Julian Eymard, the Apostle of the Eucharist. Eymard (AY-mard), however, was not born with that title. In fact, his attraction to the Eucharist evolved over a long period of time. The title of this book, Tomorrow Will Be Too Late, refers to the words he spoke to his sisters when he left the diocesan clergy to enter a missionary community. They pleaded with him to remain one more day. He replied, “God calls me now. Tomorrow will be too late.” Peter Julian’s entire life was a journey in faith; a journey spent discerning and responding to God’s will. Eventually, after seventeen years as a Marist, he established a new religious community dedicated to the Eucharist, the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament which continues to flourish some 140 years after his death at the age of 57. His journey is both fascinating and inspiring and one with which the reader can easily identify.

About the Author: Father Norman B. Pelletier, SSS, is presently the editor of Emmanuel, a magazine of Eucharistic spirituality. After many years in teaching he ministered as pastor in Chicago and in New York. He spent twelve years in Rome serving as vicar and then as superior general of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament.
