Less than two months after the crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross, St. Peter was boldly preaching the good news of the Resurrection in clear, unmistakable and unforgettable terms. There was no bitterness, no vituperation, no hint of a desire for vengeance in his voice, only love, forgiveness, serenity, and a conviction that nothing and no one would ever be able to shake. Nor was he alone. Within a very short time, through the preaching of the apostles and their followers, the good news had traveled to the farthest reaches of the Roman Empire and converts were to be found in every part of the then known world: Jesus, the Nazarene, the man whom God accredited by great prodigies and signs, the one who was put to death by crucifixion, had risen from the dead. “Of this,” St. Peter said, “all of us are the witnesses.” This is their story as it unfolds in the four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. It is the good news which has forever changed the course of history and provided inspiration for countless millions throughout the world. It is a mystery of faith which speaks of another far more wonderful mystery, that of the love of God incarnated in the mystery of Jesus.
