Many books have appeared recently studying “the historical Jesus” as a way, apparently, to figure out what Jesus was really like. Many of these are attempts to debunk what Christians believe about Jesus, or to deny his divinity. This book returns to the Jesus in the Gospels. That's the Jesus we believe in. Its purpose is to try to help the reader know Jesus as one person knows another. It is the outcome of a lifetime of study of the Gospels and of commentaries about them. It is also the result of eight pilgrimages to the Holy Land, including three months of study at the Ecumenical Institute of Tantur in Jerusalem that included visits to all the places where Jesus traveled - from Caesarea Philippi in the north to Egypt in the south. May the reader come away from its pages more deeply in love with this Jesus whom countless millions call "My Lord and my God." And may they be more convinced than ever that the Gospels are truly "good news." About the Author: John F. Fink, the author of Married Saints (1999), The Doctors of the Church, 2 vols. (2000), American Saints (2001) and Letters to St. Francis de Sales: Mostly on Prayer (2003), all Alba House titles, has spent more than 50 years involved in the religious publishing field, including 30 years at Our Sunday Visitor where he was president and publisher for 11 years. The recipient of the Catholic Press Association's Saint Francis de Sales Award for his outstanding contributions to Catholic journalism, he also served for many years recently as the editor-in-chief of The Criterion, the newspaper of the archdiocese of Indianapolis.
